Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Desexing
What is Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Desexing?
Laparoscopic, or keyhole, desexing is a modern surgical procedure that is less invasive to traditional desexing for female dogs.
Using specialised equipment and a small camera, our veterinarians can perform the surgery through two tiny incisions rather than the larger incision required for traditional desexing.
Unlike traditional desexing keyhole desexing involves removing the ovaries only (ovariectomy), which achieves the same outcome of traditional desexing while requiring much less tissue trauma.
The Benefits of Laparoscopic (Keyhole) Desexing
The biggest benefit of keyhole desexing is the recovery. The incisions are much smaller and the surgery is less invasive so patients experience less pain and are able to return to their activities sooner. The smaller wounds also mean reduced scarring. Many owners notice their pets are back to their usual selves much quicker compared to traditional desexing.
The laparoscopic camera also allows the surgeon to see internal structures in greater detail, helping to ensure a precise and efficient procedure.
